DESCRIPTION
Hot Apple Band is the 1960s and 70s imbued soft rock, alt-country and folk project fronted by Sydney/Eora multi-instrumentalists, Jack Kinder and Lewis Mosley. Weaving a lush sound with vintage authenticity, the duo brings the brilliance of iconic artists such as The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Harry Nilsson into the modern day, much like Drugdealer, Daniel Romano, Weyes Blood and The Lemon Twigs.
The band’s long-awaited debut album So Long, Noodle House is the duo’s symbolic sign-off on the band’s days as “Noodle House” and an exciting introduction to what’s to come from Hot Apple Band. Four years in the making and recorded and mixed by Jack Kinder, its collection of 11 tracks covers broad ground; from colourful 70s alt-country and catchy Beatles-era pop, through to emotive folk and melodic soft rock. Coming-of-age themes run through the songs, as Jack’s lyrics touch on life changes, friendships, love, shitty jobs and growing up.
Singles such as ‘So Long’ capture Hot Apple Band’s live energy perfectly with bass, drums, duelling electric guitars and honky tonk piano, whereas ‘Changing’ reveals soft rock and folk, set upon a 12 string acoustic guitar with Kinder’s smooth vocal melody and Lewis Mosley’s’ dreamy slide guitar weaving around each other beautifully. ‘Old Age’ and ‘The Hill’ stick the keyboard and Jack’s vocals in the spotlight with the heartfelt folk rock sensibility of Weyes Blood, whereas ‘Martin Morning’ brings out a pop energy with classic rock tones.
With Jack Kinders’ smooth vocals, clever arrangements and vintage production, and Lewis Mosley’s unforgettable lead guitar, slide and keyboard performance, as well as a turnstile of friends who make an appearance, Hot Apple Band’s debut has the same charm and warmth as some of the most memorable albums from the 60s and 70s, making it a timeless body or work that will surely stand the test of time.
"Soothing and delightful from start to finish..." — Shindig! Magazine (UK) ★★★★
“So Long is a gorgeous ode to close friends and family who have moved away, with Jack Kinder’s silvery vocals matched by Lewis Mosley’s soaring lead guitar.” — Pilerats
“The song ('Old Age') fits into the ‘70s canyon canon that’s been rearing its head, feeling like a kindred spirit to The Lemon Twigs, Foxygen, Drugdealer, Sylvie, and Bedouine.” — Raven Sings The Blues (USA)
